Catalase is used for the removal of peroxides, the generation of oxygen and, in coupled systems, for the determination of metabolites e.g. uric acid (1).
A very stable preparation particularly suitable for immobilization.
Unit definition: 1 U catalyzes the cleavage of 1 µmole hydrogen peroxide per minute to water and oxygen at 25 °C, pH 7. The decrease in hydrogen peroxide concentration can be followed spectrophotometrically at 240 nm (1).
