Tween^® 80, belonging to the family of polysorbates, is non-ionic surfactant for extraction of membrane proteins and isolation of cell nuclei from mammalian cell lines. The detergent is used as a carrier solution for specific injections in mice and rats and for the determination of esterase activity in bacterial cells. Industrially, Tween^® 80 is used as a stabiliser and emulsifier.
