CMC (H₂O, 25 °C) ca. 18 µM

Synthetic, non-toxic, cost-effective substitute for digitonin ideal for the solubilization, purification, and Cryo-EM studies of membrane proteins.
It contains a steroid-based hydrophobic group linked to a di-maltose head group.
The molecular weight is similar to digitonin, but CMC is much smaller. No batch-to-batch variability due to synthetic nature. Contains no harmful toxic byproducts typically found in digitonin, such as digitoxin, digoxin, and other cardiac and steroidal glycosides.
Because it is a milder detergent compared to DDM, it is effective in maintaining membrane proteins in a functional state.
