Semisynthetic derivative of rifamycin SV which is produced from certain
strains of
Amycolatopsis mediterranei. Belongs to the group of
ansamycin antibiotics. Inhibitor of DNA-dependent RNA-polymerase. Specifically
inhibits the initiation step of RNA synthesis.
