Used in cell culture to protect microorganisms, animal and plant cells against mechanical damage. Strongly hydrophilic detergent. More than 10 % soluble in water, forms foams moderately.

Polyol detergent, block-copolymer. Poly(propylene glycol) (Mr ca. 1 750): polyethylene glycol ca. 1:4.
