Cetyltrimethylammoniumbromid (CTAB)

Cetyltrimethylammoniumbromid (CTAB) ist ein kationisches Tensid mit einem breiten Anwendungsspektrum. Es wird in zahlreichen Publikationen als geeignet für die Isolierung von DNA erwähnt. 

Es ist ein effektives Tensid zur Permeabilisierung von Zellen. Von besonderem Interesse ist die CTAB-Methode bei der Permeabilisierung von laktasereichen Zellen; diese Anwendung ist von großem Nutzen bei der enzymatischen Hydrolyse von Laktose, einer wichtigen Reaktion bei der Lebensmittelverarbeitung.

Umgekehrte mizellare Systeme mit CTAB bieten neue Möglichkeiten für die Enzymchemie in unpolaren Lösungsmitteln, z. B. für die Untersuchung von Malatdehydrogenase, Lactatdehydrogenase und Chloroperoxidase.

Cetyltrimethylammoniumbromid verstärkt die Fluoreszenz biochemisch relevanter Verbindungen und erhöht die Effizienz der Chemilumineszenz-Reaktion. Ein hervorragendes Beispiel für Letzteres ist die Luminolreaktion, die bei der Bestimmung von Glukose im Blutserum wichtig ist.

CTAB hat sich in der PAGE und als Modifikator in einer Reihe von chromatographischen Systemen bewährt
